Wales Healthcare Staff Registration Information

As you may be aware, all adult care home/social service workers in Wales are required to register with Social Care Wales.

Registration with Social Care Wales is mandatory for all those working in adult care homes/social services (non-regulated staff, those who do not hold a formal registration with any other professional body), including those in management positions.

The deadline for registration was 1 October 2022, however, below timeline, we will be governed by, although certain clients may require immediate registration before you can work at their facilities.

All social care workers should register as soon as possible following the below guidelines: 

  • if you started working as a social care worker before the 30 September 2022, you’ll have 12 months from the start date of your job to register

  • if you started working as a social care worker from 1 October 2022 to 31 March 2023, you’ll need to register with us by 1 October 2023.

  • if you started working as a social care worker on or after 1 April 2023, you’ll have six months from the start date of your role to register with us. 

 It is a legal requirement for workers in these roles to register with us. To register, you will need to complete an application form and provide evidence of your qualifications, training and experience. There are a few things to consider before applying for registration

  1. Firstly, you will need to have completed a recognised qualification in social care, either at level 2 or above or working towards it. If you do not hold a recognised qualification, you may still be able to register if you can demonstrate significant experience and knowledge in social care. 

  2. Secondly, you will need to provide evidence of your current and previous employment in adult care homes. This includes details of your role, responsibilities, and any relevant training or qualifications obtained during your employment. 

  3. Once you have completed your application, Social Care Wales will carry out a thorough assessment of your suitability to work in adult care. This will include a review of your application and evidence provided, as well as a check of your criminal record and other relevant information.

  4. Finally, we want to remind you that registration is not just a legal requirement, but also a way to demonstrate your commitment to providing high-quality care to vulnerable people in Wales. By registering with Social Care Wales, you will be joining a community of professionals who share your dedication to improving the lives of those in your care.
